Let’s get into it…

Prepare for a relaxed newborn photoshoot

  • When to schedule newborn photos
  • Be the best version of yourself
  • Keep your baby awake before the session
  • Feed your newborn before the session
  • Bring the essentials
  • You don’t need to worry about your newborns’ clothes

When to schedule newborn photos

The basic rule of thumb is that the sooner you schedule your newborn photoshoot, the better, but I also want you to feel comfortable doing so.

The second trimester is an ideal time to enquire and book. If you are further along than that you can book, just don’t leave it too late! We book up quickly, so book into my photography studio in Hampshire whilst you can.

Be the best version of yourself

Motherhood is a total worldwind, especially if you’re still navigating life as a new mother – it’s totally normal and I have been in your shoes too as a mother myself!

It is so important to be the best version of yourself as your baby feeds off of your energy and you want them to be the best version of themselves too, now and when they grow into adults.

So, take time to learn, grow and make the most of motherhood for how it is. In fact, I have a blog just for you to help you make the most of motherhood so you can be your best self!

Another way to prepare for a newborn photoshoot and to be your best self is to practice self-care – take care of yourself so you have a clear mind and you feel as relaxed as possible!

Keep your baby awake before the session

It goes without saying that babies sleep a lot. Yet, their sleeping patterns do not always coincide with our plans, right? Keep your newborn up for a bit before the newborn photoshoot if you can. If you want them to be zonked out during the session then you can get those gorgeous sleepy newborn poses.

However, this isn’t always possible as newborns can be unpredictable, so please don’t overstress it as we will go with the flow of your baby! And as mentioned in the last point, you need to be the best version of yourself, as your baby can feed off of your energy.

Feed your newborn before the session

Again, don’t overthink it but if possible feed your newborn at least 20-30 minutes before your session in my photography studio in Hampshire.

What’s better than a milk-drunk baby? Nothing, it’s perfect!

You don’t want your newborn photoshoot to be filled with their frantic requests for milk – however, we can’t predict this so we won’t worry if they do! If possible feeding and burping your baby prior to the start of your newborn photoshoot means less fussing, lots of sleep, and everyone feeling more at ease.

Bring the essentials

To be honest a newborn does not require much at all other than a full tummy and their mamma’s cuddles! However, there may be some essentials that are worth bringing.

  • Wipes
  • Nappies
  • Bottles
  • Formula
  • Dummy
  • Spare change of clothes (they may have an unexpected poo explosion!) although I do offer you a newborn wardrobe in my photography studio in Hampshire
  • Their comfort blanket or teddy

You don’t need to worry about your newborn’s clothes

Did you know, that I offer a client wardrobe for your newborn, so you don’t even need to stress about their outfit? Well, you do now and I also offer styling advice if you want to use your own clothing!

This eliminates the stress of knowing what your baby should wear to the newborn photoshoot and knowing what will look good in the photos. As a Hampshire newborn photographer, I know what works best to achieve the aesthetic we want to achieve!
